About Mrs. Rooks
I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade at Creekside this year! This is my 17th year of teaching in the San Ramon Valley district where I have taught kindergarten through 4th grade and computer applications / graphic arts to 9th - 12th graders. Teaching is both my passion and my profession and I count myself blessed to be doing what I love each and every day.
I am a life-long learner who believes in taking risks, learning through challenges and embracing a growth mindset. I have had the opportunity to participate in training with Teacher's College Reading and Writing Project staff development professionals in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles during the past several years and seek opportunities to learn and grow my teaching practice. This summer I studied with colleagues under the guidance of Teachers College to add new tools to my writing instructional toolbox. My students continue to teach me how to be a more reflective, responsive, relational, and rigorous teacher. They are my inspiration!
I have been married to my husband, Russ, for 30 years and have two children. Kellie is 28 years old, graduated from college in 2012 and married her husband, Ryder, in June of 2015. Kyle is 25 and is working on his psychology degrees while working as a counselor. We are excited to welcome our first grandchild in October! Our family would not be complete without our adopted dog, Milo.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year in 5th grade with each of you! This will be a special year and we are going to have so much fun learning and growing together!!
